Publisher's Notes
First Line: "Pirates have green teeth--when they have any teeth at all. I know about pirates, because one day, when I was at the beach building a sand castle and minding my own business, a pirate ship sailed into view."
Industry Reviews "Shannon's illustrations are pure gold: dense, detailed caricatures that affectionately satirize buccaneer fantasy." Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books - Elizabeth Bush (01/01/2004)
"In addition to its appealing story, young readers will be hooked by this book's illustrations: Big, bold, and comically exaggerated, they leap off the pages to make HOW I BECAME A PIRATE a real treasure." Bloomsbury Review - Virginia Nelson
