Additional personnel: George Tortorelli (bamboo flute). Known for her work with New Age group Celestial Winds and her solo albums of Celtic harp, Lisa Lynne makes acoustic music that is soothing, heartfelt, and instantly inviting. HOPES & DREAMS, Lynne's fourth album as a solo artist, has a haunting quality that extends across all 10 tracks. To Lynne's credit, the Celtic flavor does not dominate here, as each composition--though highly melodic--is flowing, open in style, and given over to the moods of deep, sometimes melancholic introspection. Flutes, strings, guitars, and assorted instrumentation join Lynne's harp throughout the album; the arrangements are always tasteful, and complement the delicate, angelic nature of Lynne's playing. "Soliloquy," for example, matches a stately bowed cello line to Lynne's graceful arpeggios, creating an ambience of solitude and reflection. "Dreamdance," by contrast, has a lighter, breezier melody, with the harp flanked by guitar and flute. The range of sensitive compositions and pensive moods on HOPES & DREAMS makes it a fine addition to Lynne's growing discography.
