A widowed mother, Connie (Janet Leigh), is set to exchange vows with an old friend (Wendell Corey) in this Christmas story. But, eager to give her boy a very merry Christmas, Connie allows a charming sales clerk, Steve (Robert Mitchum), to buy her son a toy train set--much to her fiancé's chagrin.
