Synopsis On the day Teamster boss Jimmy Hoffa will mysteriously disappear forever, in 1975, his trusted henchman tells the story of Hoffa's life to a young trucker. His tale follows Hoffa from his days as a Depression-era truck driver through his early efforts at unionizing the truckers to his dealings with the mafia and the government as head of the Teamsters, the most powerful labor union in the country.

Film was originally meant for director Oliver Stone, and then Barry Levinson.
"Hoffa" is DeVito's third film as a director and first drama, following the comedies "War of the Roses" and "Throw Momma from the Train".
