Personnel: Gordon Lightfoot (vocals, guitar, synthesizer); Terry Clements , Red Shea (guitar); Bob Doige (acoustic guitar, classical guitar, cello, panpipes, bass instrument, clay drum); Mike Heffernan (keyboards, synthesizer); Rick Haynes (bass instrument); Barry Keane, Sean O'Grady (drums); Raphael Keelan (background vocals). Liner Note Authors: Gordon Lightfoot; Nicolas Jennings. In 2002, Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot suffered life-threatening injuries that put him out of commission for a while. Ever the trooper, he gathered voice-and-guitar tracks he'd recorded just before his illness and oversaw their production from his sickbed. Though the band was overdubbed long after Lightfoot's singing, HARMONY congeals surprisingly well. Whether out of necessity or choice, the production is considerably leaner than that of Lightfoot's many '70s hits, focusing around acoustic guitar and colored mainly by modest keyboard and electric guitar tracks that sublimate themselves to the songs' purpose. The album is filled out by a couple of live tracks of the same vintage, displaying Lightfoot's faultless knack for capturing an audience. Mellow, thoughtful, and tasteful, HARMONY holds up Lightfoot's legacy in admirable fashion.
Industry Reviews 3 stars out of 5 - [I]t's an honest, often gorgeous statement by a still formidable singer-songwriter.
