Hannah's best friend is her cat, Jack. Unfortunately, Jack must stay behind when Hannah goes to visit her grandmother. PreS-Gr 1 Hannah has a special relationship with her cat. Jack is more than just a pet and companion; he's a friend she cannot do without. They share a variety of activities from hunting fairies and garden snakes to bedtime stories. The child is excited when she learns that her family is going to visit her grandmother, until she is told that Jack cannot go. She and her grandmother have many adventures together, and always remember to send postcards to Jack. Hannah is even surprised by a reply. The vivid watercolor and gouache illustrations are appealing and match the story line quite nicely. A "warm, fuzzy" picture book to spark discussions on friendship, pets, and separation.
