Synopsis
A man known only as Mr. Abel tells the story of how he discovered and fell in love with a strange, birdlike girl named Rima, living in a South American jungle. This 1904 romance, with its tragic ending in which innocence is sacrificed to corruption, was perhaps the first work of fiction that warned of the evils of exploitation of the natural world by predatory humans, whether they be colonial despots or oblivious natives.
