Album Notes Personnel includes: Dionne Warwick, Jeffrey Osborne, Elton John, Luther Vandross, Gladys Knight, The Spinners, Stevie Wonder, Johnny Mathis. Producers include: Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer-Sager, Barry Gibb, Karl Richardson, Albhy Galuten. This collection contains 3 new songs. Dionne Warwick's GREATEST HITS 1979-1990 is a welcome recapitulation of a spotty but often impressive period in the singer's career, which had been resuscitated by Arista head Clive Davis, who was masterminding the blossoming career of Warwick's cousin Whitney Houston at the same time. Warwick's voice, still outstanding two decades after her first hit, is what lifts these tracks above the pedestrian. The first cut, a version of Carole Bayer Sager's "That's What Friends Are For" was recorded with Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Stevie Wonder as the music industry's first high-profile AIDS benefit single. It's the album's best-known track, along with the hit "I'll Never Love This Way Again."
