Obviously, a 10-song Marvin Gaye best-of is an oxymoron, but to give it its due, this 1983 repackaging of stuff laying around the Motown vaults doesn't have a dud track, and it covers just about every phase of his career at the label to boot. You get Gaye's early blues- and gospel- based hits (the astoundingly kinetic "Ain't That Peculiar"), more conspicuously pop productions from the late '60s ("Too Busy Thinkin' 'Bout My Baby"), tracks from his breakthrough self-produced concept albums ("Mercy Mercy Me," "Inner City Blues"), and finally, his later, even more personal productions (read: they're about sex) like "Let's Get It On" and "Got to Give It Up."
