With a title that refers to Hurt's acrimonious split with Capitol Records, 2009's GOODBYE TO THE MACHINE seems to have reinvigorated the Los Angeles-based alt-metal ensemble. Fronted by emotive singer J. Loren Wince, the band is most intriguing when it's pushing away from hard-rock conventions, as on the urgent "Pandora" and the melancholy "Pills."
