Though the idea of a summarizing the career of a 20th-century icon like Frank Sinatra in a dozen songs is laughable, GOLD provides an excellent cross-section of the master singer's widely differing styles. There's the worldly-wise romantic of "Young At Heart," the smitten paramour of "Witchcraft," the star-crossed lover of "My Funny Valentine" and "Same Old Saturday Night," and the sophisticated swinger of "The Lady Is a Tramp" and "Chicago." The Nelson Riddle arrangement of "I've Got You Under My Skin" is a classic of its kind, while Sinatra's vocal on "Nice 'N' Easy" is the epitome of relaxed swing.
