Album Notes Additional personnel includes: David Byrne (vocals). All tracks have been digitally remastered. GOD SAVE THE KING is a puzzling compilation with a rather misleading title. The first two tracks, "God Save the King" and the David Byrne-sung "Under Heavy Manners," are taken from the 1980 solo album GOD SAVE THE QUEEN/UNDER HEAVY MANNERS. One of Fripp's best solo efforts, this is an album which cries out for a proper CD reissue. The other seven tracks comprise most (not all) of 1979's THE LEAGUE OF GENTLEMEN, the sole studio album by Fripp's short-lived supergroup featuring organist Barry Andrews (XTC, Shriekback) and bassist Sara Lee (Gang of Four, B-52s). The closest Fripp ever came to new wave, these seven songs are danceable rock with Andrews' carnival organ and Fripp's typically excellent guitar solos over probably the best rhythm section Fripp ever had. The seeds of King Crimson's excellent trio of early '80s releases can be found in tracks like "Cognitive Dissonance."
Industry Reviews ...[the tracks] distort instrumental rock traditions, inhabiting a circus of circular riffing and complex-but-dinky tunes that invariably rush towards a swelling climactic blow-out, Fripp never letting his humorously academic games interfere with his ability to scorch the strings...
