Album Notes This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by Sasha. This installment in the great Global Underground is Sasha's second mix for the label. It showcases Sasha's funky new sound, inspired by his sets at Space (Ibiza's famous club with a sun-drenched terrace). It's a mix that shows exactly what has made Sasha a superstar DJ: a sophisticated, tasteful choice of tunes, artfully blended to create the maximum excitement when he drops the anthems toward the end of the mix. The first CD is full of bubbling, fat bass sounds. Tracks such as Orbital's "Nothing Left," Space Manoeuvres' "Stage One," and Sander Kleinberg's "Sacred" show Sasha embracing the tech-trance sound, which is as sweet and dark as molasses. The second CD gets off to a rather unpromising start with BT's obscure "Fibonacci Sequence," which seems to sample Stephen Hawkins. However, it quickly moves toward the gloriously shimmering "Xpander," by Sasha himself, then Junkie XL's "Future in Computer Hell," before climaxing with the near-perfect melodies of "Heaven Scent," by Sasha's old chum John Digweed. So here it is, the new sound of underground (circa late 1999): chunky, funky trance with more than a dash of deep house. If you would never normally buy an Ibiza compilation, buy this--it's not like the others.
