Movie Description An honor student is forced to transfer to a school in a poor black area because his father owes the Mob for gambling debts. Taunted by local thugs, he proves himself in a street brawl and attracts the attention of a shady promoter who forces him to fight in his illegal arenas by buying his father's markers. Descending into the hellish world of illegal boxing may be the only way out of the poverty surrounding him.
Synopsis Tommy and Lincoln, two poor high school students on the brink of juvenile delinquency, have taken up boxing. Although it's a dangerous sport, fighting helps keep them off the street and out of violent gangs. It's also a way for these boys to earn needed money, sublimate anger towards absent fathers and numb the emotional pain of broken homes. Unfortunately, all the young fighters are controlled by Horn, a nefarious businessman exploiting hungry boxers like prize pigs for his illegal matches. But with a little luck and each other's friendship, Tommy and Lincoln may beat all the odds.
Industry Reviews "...The fight scenes are vicious, demagogic, and thoroughly exciting..." Entertainment Weekly - p.30-1 - Owen Gleiberman
"...GLADIATOR was directed by Rowdy Herrington, a filmmaker with a natural feel for pumped-up action..." Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (03/06/1992)
