Industry Reviews Gr 4-6 Tantalizing accounts of ghost sightings, near-death experiences, and UFOs and alien creatures enliven these series entries focusing on varied curiosities of human perception. Views of skeptics and believers alike allow readers to judge each phenomenon's validity. Ghosts includes descriptions of classic cases of apparitions, haunted buildings, and poltergeist events. While Near-Death devotes full attention to its subject, only one chapter in Carl R. Green and William R. Sanford's Out-of-Body Experiences (Enslow, 1993) describes near-death reports. Many compilations of encounters with UFOs and alien beings and of ghost stories are available that offer much the same information as Landau's concise titles on those topics. Each volume is enriched by chapter notes, definitions of unusual or specialized words either parenthetically in the text or glossary, a fine bibliography, and a detailed index. The black-and-white and full-color photographs and reproductions are generally stock, but are numerous enough to enhance major aspects of the topics discussed. These titles are uniformly well written, attractive, and balanced in their treatment of endlessly fascinating subjects. Ann G. Brouse, Steele Memorial Library, Elmira, NY Lopate
