GANGSTER CLASSICS sounds like the title of a greatest hits collection, but this Lil Rob release is actually a compilation of primarily unreleased tracks from his time on Low Profile Records. That said, there is plenty of gangsta-inflected hip-hop here with Lil Rob's tales of hustling, Chicano culture, and livin' large in Southern California. The backing tracks are sweet, whether on booming, ominous cuts ("Locos") or smoothed-out soul jams ("I Like the Way You Love Me"), and there's also plenty of solid mic dexterity on display with rhymes from Lil Rob and members of his Southsiders clique.
