Synopsis
An artist, Sammy Mountjoy, rises to fame from obscurity. Then, during World War II, he is captured by the Nazis and confined to a prison cell in total darkness.The novel traces Sammy's life through flashbacks as he, told that his execution is imminent, reflects upon his past.
