Synopsis At the beginning of eighth grade, learning disabled Max and his new friend Freak, whose birth defect has affected his body but not his brilliant mind, find that when they combine forces they make a powerful team., Two 12-year-old boys--one a giant and a slow learner, the other a two-foot crippled genius--form an extraordinary friendship. With Kevin on his shoulders, Max the giant and the Freak (as Kevin is called) become one being called Freak the Mighty, performing great deeds of derring-do. Through his friendship with Kevin, Max comes out of his shell, and remembers things from his past he would rather forget.
