Recorded live at the Montmartre, Copenhagen, Denmark from November 14-16, 1988. This is a live set utilizing the Big Carla Bley Band, a 15-piece ensemble. The performances were culled from three nights at Montmartre in Copenhagen, Denmark, during a European tour in 1988. As with her 1982 album, LIVE!, the music pulses with the excitement of a live audience. Bley writes with genuine humor, laced with entertaining shifts and surprise juxtapositions. She can also evoke subtleties and melancholy moods. "The Girl Who Cried Champagne" is a three-part suite clocking in at over 17 minutes and it deserves every bit of time it covers. Her 10 horn players make a wonderfully organic massed sound as Bley scores them in inventive ways. They're also loaded with fine soloists, who take the melodic starting points in the compositions and build on them in ways which are always true to the core identity of the music.
