Synopsis When Cornelia "Nealy" Case, devoted first lady to the President of the United States, learns that her husband has been brutally assassinated, she is left without a clue as to how her life will proceed. One thing she is sure of, though, is that she needs a break from responsibility and from the media spotlight. So when the new President Lester Vandervort, a middle-aged bachelor, asks her to act as his first lady, she decides that the only way she can truly get the peace and quiet she needs is to disappear altogether. After craftily concealing her identity, Nealy accepts a ride across the country with Mat Jorik, a jaded newspaper reporter, and his two "daughters." From there, the unlikely foursome share laughter, fun, and love. They ultimately become a family. But for how long? As the Secret Service gets closer and closer to Nealy's whereabouts, she is forced to choose between the strong affection she feels for her unknowing partners in crime and the deep-seeded loyalty she harbors for her country.
