Synopsis
D'Aguiar's third novel is a tale set on a slave ship en route to the New World. When disease breaks out, the captain orders that those who are ill must be thrown overboard so he can collect insurance. A slave named Mintah, who speaks English, gives her version when the voyage is over and the captain is brought to trial.
