Movie Description The life of the author of such classics as "Robinson Crusoe" and "Moll Flanders" is examined through the use of archives and portraits.
Synopsis "Famous Authors" examines the men and women behind the words that brought them literary kudos.
In "Daniel Defoe," viewers learn how the 17th century wordsmith strived for realism in his fiction and accuracy in his journalism. He is heralded mostly for his novels "Robinson Crusoe" and "Moll Flanders."
Defoe is also recognized for his political activities. His poem "The True-Born Englishman" satirized ethnocentric British grumps who castigated foreign peoples and, from 1704 to 1713, he edited a newspaper that supported the policies of King William III.
One bit of trivia: Defoe is roundly noted for being the first author of ghost stories in Modern English letters.
