Movie Description Sean Connery, Dustin Hoffman, and Matthew Broderick star as three generations of a family formerly linked to organized crime. Grandfather Jesse has been in and out of jail, and his son Vito has decided to leave a life of crime in order to become a respectable family man, but when grandson Adam comes up with a can't-miss heist plan, the intergenerational sparks begin to fly.
Synopsis Sidney Lumet directed this dramatic crime comedy in which three generations of McMullen men join forces for one last stab at the family business: robbery. The grandfather, Jesse, is game; Vito, the father, is worried about his son, Adam; and all the son wants is for Gramps to be proud of him. Despite their individual attempts to go straight, each of them has reasons to continue their life of crime that are bound up in their love for each other.
Film Notes Theatrical release: December 1989.
Filmed on location in New York and Long Island.
Industry Reviews "...[Gavras] seems to have developed an effortless command of his skills, sweeping us into the movie's deceptively casual, yet steely rhythms....It's brilliantly directed and acted..." Los Angeles Times - p.C17 - Michael Wilmington
