Synopsis Hundreds of years ago, all of the fairytale kingdoms were invaded by a mysterious Adversary, and those people and creatures who survived came to our world. Now, Snow White, Pinocchio, Cinderella, and all the rest live hidden among us normal humans, or "Mundanes," and pay lip service to a government-in-exile headed by King Cole. Those who are capable of passing for human live mainly in New York City; those who cannot, live upstate at a farm for talking animals and other nonhumans. This first storyline concerns the disappearance (and possible murder) of Snow White's sister Rose Red, and the crime's investigation by "Fabletown's" sheriff, Bigby Wolf, who's the Big Bad Wolf in human form. Naturally, the plot reaches its climax at the big ball.... The book also includes a new all-text story which explains how the wolf became human. This full-color graphic novel collects issues #1 to #5 of the FABLES comic book series., LEGENDS IN EXILES presents the opening chapters in the FABLES saga, about a crew of fairy tale refugees. The Adversary forced them out of their homeland and they've taken up secret residence in New York City, setting up their own government (with Snow White as Director of Operations). This is the beginning of a series as mythological in its scope as its inspirational material--and you won't want to miss these genesis episodes.

Industry Reviews "Willingham's dialogue is humorous, his characterizations are sharp and his plot encompasses a tremendous amount of information with no strain at all." Publishers Weekly (05/05/2003)
"Willingham's happy idea of bringing the Fables--that is, the characters of Europe's best-known fairy tales--to contemporary New York rolls merrily, dangerously along in two stories." Booklist - Ray Olson (02/15/2005)
