Album Notes Tobacco is a mysterious group that embodies electro's new and surprising legacy, that of possessing the mystique once solely reserved for metal bands. The music, however, is a beguiling combination of something alien and warm all at once, with lush, post-Kraut compositions melding with mutated vocals. "Dirt" is an indisputable highlight, thanks to the fitting contribution of eccentric MC Aesop Rock, but purely instrumental mid-tempo spaceouts like "Side 8 Big Gums Version" make for a pretty fascinating fusion between the worlds of techno and hip-hop.
Industry Reviews 3.5 stars out of 5 -- Plotting playful electro-dissertations via ghetto blaster beats and nostalgic meditations, the album emerges with soft synth-cello, trance-y, fluttered vocals and layered psychedelia.
3.5 stars out of 5 -- Moody melodies that echo the sing-song confections of Air or Boards of Canada are run through a lo-fi blender and poured over jagged hip-hop beats that radiate mischief and dread.
3.5 stars out of 5 -- Fec crafts spectacular, Air-style instrumentals and expertly spins reedy Mellotrons into indelible hooks.
