Movie Description A melange of sentimental musical vignettes about the various members of a madcap Manhattan family, who attempt by turns to find romance. Allen returns to his improvisational comic vein, reportedly springing the musical numbers on his nonmusical stars--only Barrymore was dubbed--shortly before production began.
Synopsis In this film, director Woody Allen mixes song-and-dance with his usual array of neurotic, upscale New Yorkers suffering romantic woes.
While the impending wedding of young lovers Holden and Skylar is the centerpiece of the film, we also get to know various members of Skylar's family -- and their dysfunctional love lives. The characters often express their feelings through
such classic tunes as "Just You, Just Me" and "My Baby Just Cares for Me," making this one of the more unique movies in Allen's oeuvre.
Film Notes Released theatrically in the USA December 25, 1996.
The film features one of Billy Crudup's first screen appearances.
Industry Reviews "...Complex, bold and audacious and simultaneously simple, guileless and sublime..." Variety - Leonard Klady (12/02/1996)
"...It would take a heart of stone to resist this movie....The movie finds a freshness and charm that never ends..." Chicago Sun-Times - Roger Ebert (01/17/1997)
