Recorded at Mirror Image Recordings, Dix Hills, New York and Battery Studios, New York, New York. Rappers have been criticized for a slew of transgressions both real and perceived, from real-life criminal activity to made-up gangster lyrics. But what to make of a New York news program that criticized Keith Murray for his grammar? Not long before the release of this, Murray's second album, he was called to question for language that was deemed incorrect, a rather odd accusation against a poet of rhyme whose style is based around invented words. They call them wrong; we call them creative art. He calls himself "the most beautifullest vocabulist." ENIGMA packs Murray's punch in every song. With a boastful attitude and shouting delivery, he chastises anyone who dares to test his skills on the odd-sounding "Dangerous Ground" and the bluesy "Whut's Happnin'." This is hard-core art. On "The Rhyme," which is based on a Maze sample, producer Erick Sermon lends a smoother party appeal to this most beautifullest of rappers.
Industry Reviews 3.5 Mics (out of 5) - ...Keith Murray is apparently more than happy with the insane machinations of his own mind, and spits verses just for the sake of leaving globs of saliva on smoking mics...Rap Pages (11/96, p.37) - ...Stereo-oid enhanced production....Strong hooks....Invigorated by the beats that support him, Keith Murray is just plain doper, providing punchlines and put-downs with spit-spraying passion, and scoring consistently high marks on the entertainment scale...
