Presumably, no one was expecting Sean Thomas, better known as C-Bo, to do an about-face and start turning out gentle odes to peace and love. Remaining true to form, the West Coast rapper's antics on ENEMY OF THE STATE are full of graphic violence, anti-authoritarian sentiments, and downright bad-ass attitude. C-Bo's not anyone's idea of politically correct, talking about having "more loot than the Jews," and opening the album with a skit where he blows away a policeman. Unlike many rappers who fail it to walk it like they talk it, though, C-Bo is a gangsta first, and a rapper second, with a past that includes jail time for gang activities. After the release of his previous album TIL MY CASKET DROPS, C-Bo ran into trouble with the cops again, as the terms of his parole prohibited the promotion of gang lifestyle. Apparently that experience hasn't deterred him a bit, as ENEMY OF THE STATE is even more of an unrelenting onslaught of violent images and accounts of illicit activities. The beats and arrangements are simple and effective, leaving plenty of room for C-Bo to tell his brutal tales.
