Textbook, for students who have a knowledge of calculus gained from a normal two- or three-semester course, combines an exposition of the elementary theory of differential equations with considerable material on methods of solution, analysis, and approximation that have proved useful in a wide variety of applications. This edition (4th was 1986) adds many new computer-generated graphs, more discussion of the geometrical or asymptotic properties of solutions, some 275 new problems, and two new sections -- one on first order difference equations, with an emphasis on the logistic equation, and one on the Lorenz equations.
