On 2008's EARTH TO THE DANDY WARHOLS, the group's first non-major-label outing since its 1995 debut (DANDYS RULE OK?), the ever-energetic alt-rock act offers up a giddily eccentric set of tunes. Led with typical swagger by frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor, the Portland, Oregon-based ensemble goes for a goth/glam vibe with "Mission Control," drifts down a shoegaze portal on the Ride-like "Wasp in the Lotus," and wanders into pastoral psychedelic territory on "Love Song," a track that features Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) on dobro and Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) on banjo. Anyone concerned that the Dandys were going to scale back on ambition with EARTH can rest assured that Taylor-Taylor and company are still as restless and undaunted as ever, as illustrated by the name of their new label--Beat the World Records.
Industry Reviews 'The World The People Together (Come On)' is MOD-tastic, a hip swaying opener, while the guitar tortured solo in 'Now You Love Me' affirms The Dandy's as agreeable as ever.
