A brief recounting of the career of this jazz musician and composer who, along with his orchestra, created music that was beyond category., A picture-book biography of the innovative songwriter, jazz musician, and orchestra leader Duke Ellington (1899-1974). Born Edward Kennedy Ellington, he began his career playing piano at parties and cabarets, but eventually became famous enough to perform at such legendary venues as the Cotton Club and Carnegie Hall. Many of his songs, such as "Satin Doll" and "Mood Indigo", have become classics of popular music. Illustrated with color paintings.
