Movie Description
This classic Spanish language version of the Bram Stoker novel filmed simultaneously with the Bela Lugosi feature. Dracula (Carlos Villar) travels from Castle Dracula in the Carpathian Mountains to London to establish himself in respectable society by day and carry on his blood-lusting by night. However, he has not reckoned on Dr. Van Helsing (Eduardo Arozamena), who is aware of his vampirism and plans to stop him at all costs!

Credits
Cast:Carlos Villarias, Lupita Tovar
Director:Enrique Tovar Avalos, George Melford

Synopsis
A classic version of Bram Stoker's famous tale starring Bela Lugosi in the performance that made his name synonymous with Dracula. Displaying his trademark flair for the grotesque, horror-meister Tod Browning chronicles the blood-sucking count's sinister misadventures. While haunting London in pursuit of the white-necked maiden Mina, Dracula manages to sink his fangs into plenty of other victims -- until Dr. Van Helsing puts a stop to the blood-shed by driving a stake through the vampire's heart.

Film Notes
The Spanish-language version of "Dracula" was filmed concurrently with the 1931 English-language version on the Universal lot. The same sets and costumes were used, with filming done at night.

Industry Reviews
"[The film] established the horror movie as an enduringly pertinent genre."
New York Times - Dave Kehr (09/26/2006)
