Album Notes "Are You That Somebody?" was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Another soundtrack filled with some of the day's hottest R&B talents. Dr. Dolittle features contributions from Aaliyah ("Are You That Somebody?"), Ginuwine ("Same Ol' G") and Playa ("Your Dress") that were all produced by Hip-Hop/R&B producer Timbaland. In addition, Timbaland rings in with his own track, "Da Funk." Montell Jordan's re-mix of "Ride" is a definite party starter. Changing Faces' track, "Do Little Things," is a soft, pretty, mid-tempo ballad that is a refreshing change from the over-all make up of the soundtrack. Club favorite Robin S. brings her energy to "Dance," while R&B diva Jody Watley's "Lovin' You So" has a classic '70s soul feel thanks to a sample from "Pack'd My Bags," which was written by Chaka Khan. There's even a re-make of the Aretha Franklin tune "Rocksteady" by Dawn Robinson. All in all, the Dr. Dolittle soundtrack has something for everyone.
Industry Reviews ...The Dr. Dolittle soundtrack delivers a lotta southern summer flavor--the smolderin' funk of passionate evenings and rumblin' bass of sweaty nights... Vibe (09/01/1998)
4 (out of 5) - ...contains a balance of songs with love, sex and partying... Rap Pages (09/01/1998)
...instead of songs from the original '60s musical, we're treated to lover-man R&B and lascivious party jams, none of which have any apparent connection to the film. The good news is that it may be the summer's best ready-made party tape... - Rating: A- Entertainment Weekly (06/17/1998)
