Synopsis This is the first book in the long-lived Childe Cycle. Originally published in 1960--in a slightly different version under the title "The Genetic General"--this book introduces the Dorsai, a race of soldiers, and Donal Greame, a man who is, to all eyes, the pinnacle of the genetic experiment that produced the Dorsai. Destined for military greatness, Donal tries to make his own way in the universe. This book is one of the most important in the sub-genre of militaristic science fiction.
