Album Notes Personnel: Copernicus (vocals, spoken vocals, keyboards); Raimundo Penaforte (vocals, acoustic guitar, cavaquinho, viola, percussion); Larry Kirwan (vocals, electric guitar); Pierce Turner (vocals, piano, Hammond b-3 organ, percussion); Cesar Aragundi (acoustic guitar, electric guitar); Marvin Wright (electric guitar, bass guitar, percussion); Mike Fazio (electric guitar); Bob Hoffnar (steel guitar); Rob Thomas (violin); Matty Fillou (tenor saxophone, percussion); Fred Parcells (trombone); George Rush (tuba, bass instrument, bass guitar); Mark Brotter, Thomas Hamlin (drums, percussion). Audio Mixer: James Frazee. Joseph Smalkowski (aka Copernicus) displays a vocal presence that warns of impending doom, weaving cautionary yarns through terminology related to physics. An imposing storyteller capable of convincing human beings to look deeper within themselves, Copernicus conjures these grave wake-up calls through a pronounced style of prose, poetry, and spoken word accented by various styles of music that are improvised, yet refer to strains of electronica, jazz, blues, and space themes. On the album DISAPPEARANCE, he has created perhaps his most insightful piece of philosophy on CD. The music, directed by Pierce Turner, is free flowing and closer to a soundscape, matching the word play very well. It would be wise to know what you are getting into before you experience Copernicus, and then draw your own conclusions.
