Los Tigres del Norte are truly one of the leading lights of Norteno music. With its distinctive sound, dominated by accordion and bajo sexto, Norteno is a traditional form from the Mexican working class that often focuses on the hardships of rural life, yet always has a lightness and buoyancy that colors its bright, danceable rhythms. Though Los Tigres are based in Texas, they sing about Mexican-American life and romance with this same sense of fun and good-time attitude.
DIRECTO AL CORAZON finds Los Tigres in typically fine form, with plenty of vibrant, driving numbers mixed alongside slower, cry-in-your-beer ballads. Lush, emotive singing is at the center of all of these songs, with strong vocal leads fleshed out by tight-knit, multi-part harmonies. The immediately appealing traditional flavor of DIRECTO AL CORAZON is the perfect antidote to much of the glossy Latin pop dominating the charts.
