Album Notes 2 LPs on 1 CD: DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES (1963)/IN THE ARMS OF LOVE (1966). Originally released on Columbia (8815) & Columbia (9333). Includes liner notes by Mark Marymont. This release collects a pair of mid-1960s records from velvet-voiced vocalist Andy Williams. DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES, originally issued in '63, was Williams's most successful album, and it spent weeks at BILLBOARD's top spot, remaining on the charts for 107 weeks. The 12 songs here, which include "What Kind of Fool Am I?," a jazzy take on "You Are My Sunshine," the hit single "Can't Get Used to Losing You," and the title track, feature spare, brassy arrangements that sound like a nightclub performance. IN THE ARMS OF LOVE, from 1966, features tracks chosen from the same sources--the Great American Songbook and film soundtracks--but the arrangements are more obviously elaborate studio creations. The result is a rich, full sound employing strings that act as a beautiful complement to Williams's emotive singing. Standout tracks include his renditions of "So Nice (Summer Samba)," "A Man and a Woman," and the title song. These recordings are a testament to Williams's sterling reputation as an interpreter of popular songs.
