Movie Description Two zombie films with the same influential source and appropriately rhyming titles, DAWN OF THE DEAD and SHAUN OF THE DEAD, are collected here together. Both films are directly inspired by horror auteur George Romero's original DAWN OF THE DEAD, the sequel to his legendary NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. In the remake of DAWN OF THE DEAD, the awakening of the zombies at the start of the film generates an apocalyptic sequence quite unlike any other committed to celluloid. After the threat has begun, a group of survivors find shelter in a local mall, building a makeshift community while trying desperately to figure out a method of escape. In SHAUN OF THE DEAD the zombie film, in essence invented by Romero, becomes the ripe target of parody. Shaun is a regular British bloke, stuck with a dead-end job, ending up in the same pub every night after work--until his girlfriend dumps him. Desperate to get her back, he remains nearly oblivious to the slow invasion of zombies overtaking London. Once he collects her and a group of friends, it becomes apparent they will need somewhere to hide from the walking dead. The only place Shaun can think of is, of course, the pub. SHAUN OF THE DEAD satirizes the zombie film with a dry British wit, and follows in the tradition of social commentary established by Romero. The influence of the director can be seen over thirty years after his first film with the DAWN OF THE DEAD/SHAUN OF THE DEAD VALUE PACK.
