Anyone who paid attention to hip-hop in the mid-'90s knew that one of the phatest production crews of the era was the DITC, or "Diggin' in the Crates," crew. The group had a penchant for finding slick-sounding, obscure samples; the kinds panned like gold from dusty crates of old records lying in the corner of someone's basement. The collective's raucous self-titled release features contributions from some of up of hip-hop luminaries, including Diamond D, Lord Finesse, Fat Joe, O.C., Buckwild, Showbiz, A.G., and the then-recently deceased Big L.
DJ Premier weaves his signature head-nodding beats into tracks like "Thick," "Da Enemy," and "Ebonics." There's also a guest spot from Big Pun, whose characteristically rotund lyrical delivery thickens "Drop It Heavy" (which also features KRS-One) and "Where Ya At." Other monster cuts include "Champagne Thoughts" (featuring O.C.), "Day One" (featuring Diamond D, Big L, Lord Finesse, O.C., and A.G.), and "Get Yours" (featuring O.C., Big L, and Diamond D). Though the late '90s/early '00s saw scores of hip-hop collaboration albums, D.I.T.C. is one of the finest.

Industry Reviews
3.5 mics out of 5 - ...This LP is a kind of Hip-hop 101...[It] gives a seminar to those who may have forgotten the essence - plain, ol'-fashioned raw lyricism over stripped down, head-nodding, system-wrecking beats...
The Source (04/01/2000)

...hits like a freight train, crushing all in [its] path. With knocking drums and somber melodies, the mid-tempo beats on songs like 'Champagne Thoughts' perfectly complement the collective's energetic style....D.I.T.C. come correct, adding another solid notch to their belt.
Vibe (03/01/2000)

8 out of 10 - ...It's hip-hop served neat, imbued with invincible and seemingly effortless energy amid the hard-bitten grooves....proper, pounding, gimmick-free underground New York hip-hop...
NME (03/04/2000)

...Revels in both the direct approach to the head, and bringing the house down. The choppy strings on 'Thick' are in hot pursuit of scuttling piano and vibes....heads [will] look at the ground with nodding respect.
The Wire (04/01/2000)

...a phenomenally solid work that supercedes all its pre-release expectations....[it] shoul bum-rush these true-school players into the national spotlight right where they belong.
CMJ (02/21/2000)
