Synopsis Big Brown Rooster cannot even think of eating another bite of chicken feed when he has a brainstorm--what about the cookbook of his famous great-grandmother, Little Red Hen! He searches high and low until he has uncovered her trusty cookbook and it's recipe for strawberry shortcake, and then secures the help of his three closest friends. The antics that ensue will delight children, as none of the animals actually know how to cook, yet they are all eager. A strip appears on every spread defining in kid-friendly terms all of the essential definitions to be a successful chef, things that may seem obvious to adults, but escape children. At the conclusion is the recipe for "Great-Granny's Magnificent Strawberry Shortcake," which children can make themselves. Color illustrations accompany the text., With the questionable help of his friends, Big Brown Rooster manages to bake a strawberry shortcake which would have pleased his great-grandmother, Little Red Hen.
