Album Notes Los Terribles Del Norte: Juan Acuna (vocals, 6 string bass); Benny Mendez (accordion); Francisco Mendez (electric bass, background vocals); Jesse Tovar (drums, percussion). Recorded at Estudios Freddie, Corpus Christi, Texas. COLGADO DE UN ARBOL was nominated for a 1999 Grammy for Best Mexican-American Music Performance. In uniforms of blue jackets and white Western boots, Los Terribles Del Norte are another Norteno band doing Freddie Records proud. Their sound is spare and effective, a guitar, bass and drum kit lent wings by Benny Mendez' accordion fills and led, of course, by the lilting gladness of their singing. The dire ring of COLGADO DE UN ARBOL is, then, slightly misleading. "Que Nadie Nos Moleste" is an upbeat declaration of a couple's need for passion in solitude, which soon turns to the alienation of "Ahora Que Me Vaya"--only a fine group like Los Terribles can make such a light air of loss. Lead singer Juan Acuna is the particular talent in this respect, gracefully embodying the very Mexican juxtaposition of fatalism and carefree felicity in his every note.
