About this Movie
Movie Description
A spell-binding story of a woman's love tested by seduction, deception and death.

Credits
Cast:Theresa Russell
Director:Nicolas Roeg

Synopsis
Marie Davenport, wife of Dr. Alex Davenport, is having an affair. Daniel, her lover, urges her to leave her husband so that they can build a life together, rather than having only fleeting afternoons. After a long internal debate, Marie agrees to leave her husband, but as soon as she has mustered the courage to tell him, he is killed in a boating accident. In a set of mysterious circumstances, the morgue "loses" Alex's body; Marie comes to believe that he is still alive somewhere, and that possibility gives her the chance to reflect on her marital relationship, and to choose between the two men once again.

Film Notes
Leading actress Theresa Russell is the wife of the film's director Nicolas Roeg. They have made five films together, including Roeg's section of the 1988 film "Aria," "Eureka" (1981), and "Track 29" (1988). Before Roeg directed he was a noted cinematographer, and was the second unit director on David Lean's classic "Lawrence of Arabia" (1962). The screenwriter, Allan Scott, has also written the scripts for several Roeg films, including "Don't Look Now," and "The Witches."

"Cold Heaven" has concerns similar to several other recent films focusing on dead people returning to life, or questioning whether someone has, in fact, died. Among these are "Late for Dinner" (1991), "Forever Young" (1992), and "Chances Are" (1989).

Shot in Panavision.

Rated BBFC 15 by the British Board of Film Classification.
