Movie Description
Dr. Michael Strother (Goran Visnjic) is a London hypnotherapist with the ability to see into his patients' minds. While attempting to cure Detective Janet Losey (Shirley Henderson) of smoking, Strother sees a vision related to the case she is currently working on--that of a missing young girl. Days later, the girl is found, unable to speak and with strange marks on her body. Losey recruits a reluctant Strother, using his unusual gift to aid the investigation. Strother is lead to Elliott (Paddy Considine), an expert in ancient symbols, who recommends that Strother read the books of Professor Catherine Lebourg. Soon after, Elliott is found dead. A visit to Professor Lebourg, now in a nursing home, is just the beginning of a terrifying odyssey for Strother that will take him to the brink of both insanity and death.
Loosely based on Madisson Smart Bell's novel DOCTOR SLEEP, Nick Willing's (PHOTOGRAPHING FAIRIES) film effectively combines the police procedural, serial killer, and occult genres. Overcoming an obviously limited budget with a talented cast, moody score, and effective use of locations, Willing has created a tense, nervy thriller that is likely to be a pleasant surprise for viewers with an affinity for suspense.
