Album Notes
A pioneer of the Hawaiian steel guitar, Sol Hooppi is an unsung hero of Hawaiian music, early Western swing, and even jazz, as he fearlessly blended jazz elements and traditional Hawaiian sounds into his music. The recordings here--from 1933 and '34--function as both an historical sound document and a darn entertaining foray into the alternately bouncy and soothing, jazzy and traditional, music of the Novelty Quartett. The 24-track collection includes the classic "My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua Hawai`i."
