Album Notes The Yardbirds: Keith Relf (vocals, harmonica); Eric Clapton, Chris Dreja (guitar); Paul Samwell-Smith (bass); Jim McCarty (drums). Producers: The Yardbirds, Giorgio Gomelsky, Mike Vernon. Reissue producer: Mike Martin. Recorded at R.G. Jones Studio, Surrey, England in February 1964 and live at The Crawdaddy Club, London, England on December 7 & 8, 1963. Includes liner notes by Mick Martin. Yardbirds newcomers may be mislead into thinking that 1995's CLAPTON'S CRADLE: THE EARLY YARDBIRDS RECORDINGS is a "best of" set. While it does have its share of highlights, the collection is a chronicle of the band (with Eric Clapton on guitar) at its earliest developmental stages. The album is basically broken down into three sections: songs recorded for one of the Yardbirds' first recording sessions (highlighted by a cover of John Lee Hooker's "Boom Boom"), a short live set from 1963 at the Crawdaddy Club, and a live set backing up blues legend Sonny Boy Williamson. Those unfamiliar with the band should begin with a best-of collection, but longtime fans will enjoy the early Yardbirds/Clapton highlights assembled on CLAPTON'S CRADLE.
