Synopsis Ralph Nader's CIVIC AROUSAL recalls the era of the Founding Fathers, when pampleteering was the means by which current and highly-charged political ideas were disseminated to a wide, and interested, readership. Here, Ralph Nader replies to two letters from young people.The first, written following the 2000 election, is from a young woman who tells why she is disenchanted with the two-party system. Nader replies that civic action is essential to democracy, saying "defeatism is disappointing and must be viewed as unacceptable." A second letter, written just prior to the 2004 campaign, is from a young man who who identifies himself as a mainstream "Organizational Kid" who is turned off by the corporate hold on America; he implores Nader to stay in the race because his generation "needs Nader," to which Nader responds that the nation needs people like the letter writer. In both letters Nader stresses the idea of civic education as essential for the young, and the need to "connect knowledge to action."
