Synopsis The author of the Kurt Wallander police procedurals exchanges chilly Sweden for warmer and considerably more violent climes, an unnamed African country reminiscent of Mozambique. Ten-year-old Nelio, a preternaturally wise street-gang leader dying of a gunshot wound, spends his last nine nights recounting the tragedy of his blood-soaked and too-brief life to a sympathetic baker.
