Synopsis Peter Ackroyd's brief and pithy biography of Chaucer (1343?-1400) sets the writer firmly in his 14th-century London milieu, and emphasizes the way his life led to his poetry. He also discusses each of Chaucer's poems in detail, including THE CANTERBURY TALES. In 2004, Ackroyd also published a novel, THE CLERKENWELL TALES, which is loosely based on Chaucer's great work.

A splendid introduction to a pivotal figure in the history of English literature." Kirkus (10/01/2004)
