Synopsis In this highly unusual literary thriller, Davis Moore is a fertility doctor working on cloning. When his daughter is raped and murdered and the crime remains unsolved, he gets his chance to experiment: managing to get a sample of the killer's DNA, he clones him, hoping to eventually be able to identify the man based on his resemblance to his clone. As the cloned child grows up, Moore follows his progress--and the results are completely unpredictable.

Industry Reviews "[An] engrossing debut novel....Though nominally a thriller, the book's jolts and tension are driven by character rather than plot....Guilefoile displays a deep interest in his characters (backstories for all abound), and...the novel as a whole is rich and involving."
"...Mr. Guilfoile's tricky, high-concept plot continually subverts and plays with the reader's expectations....[G]ripping." New York Times - Michiko Kakutani (04/19/2005)
"[A] masterpiece of intelligent plotting....[A] rare thriller that dares to make telling the difference between right and wrong, fate and choice, as difficult as it is in real life." Salon - Laura Miller (06/06/2005)
