CAPTAIN VAPOUR ATHLETES was the 1996 offering from electronic pop-funk outfit Buffalo Daughter.
This Japanese edition includes a bonus CD.
With a musical wandering eye distractedly flitting from early electronica to fuzzy punk to melodic indie rock (and meandering at all spots in between), Tokyo's Buffalo Daughter instantly caught the eclectic fancy of Mike D. and earned a spot on his Grand Royal records. The trio's 1996 debut on the imprint, CAPTAIN VAPOUR ATHLETES (combining two earlier Japanese records), captures the band's sense of frenetic invention and hyper-unpredictability, with kooky aural landscapes flecked by abstract lyrics of groovy fractured fantasy. The manner ranges from the taut Silver Apples-meets-Apples in Stereo of "Cold Summer" to the robotic 10-minute epic "Li303eve."

Industry Reviews
3 (out of 5) - ...a little funky, a little quirky and a little bit krautrocky....Their ability to surprise places them above most hip-hoppers hoping to be the next Dust Brothers.
Alternative Press (02/01/1997)

Working the same effect-laden terrain as Cibo Matto, Buffalo Daughter is the latest (and greatest) sample-pop band....ranges from cute and quirky to hard and heavy hitting, often fusing the two within the same song...
Option (11/01/1996)

...running the gamut from sugary schlock through robo/space-pop to rifftastic heavy rock...
Melody Maker (11/15/1997)

...boils acid rock, punk rock, Ventures rock, and a love for Karen Carpenter down to a paste, then smears it over experimental Moog records....a pop sensibility that makes CVA a rollercoaster ride of delectably screwball moments...
Musician (12/01/1996)
